'Back and Forth' - Simplicity 1881

Love the stiffness of the halter ties....reminds me of those ties in the 70's!

OMGoodness! I've loved this pattern from the moment I saw it...all views. I'd envisioned it with this yellow ribbed knit that I used in this project contrasted with this blue knit that I used in this project.  The floral knit jersey has been in my stash for quite some time. I purchased it when we still had Hancock Fabric stores in my area. It was cheap, cheap and I purchased quite a bit.
I must admit, this dress turned out just as I'd envisioned.....

Initially I made the skirt with the high low hem but didn't like it (at least that's what I thought) so I re-attached the "cut away" piece and although it didn't look terrible, it didn't look like it did when I folded the high low hem inwards to mimmick a full maxi. The seam was hardly noticeable but I just did NOT like it!

I LOVE IT when that happens!
Something about the drape of it all.  I think for my taste the full maxi skirt was too...full.  For these "hip bones in motion" I need just the right flare. Needless to say I removed the "cut away" piece and now am back to the high low hem.......BACK AND FORTH!

The weather cooled off some....glad I got to wear it before the Summer ends!
Verdict? It's okay. I don't love it....I don't hate it. It's very comfortable and I do love the fabric combinations. I will only make one of these but may make the shorter version with the full bodice and sleeves........some day.
It moves very well with the wind....LOVE THAT! about it
Although this pattern runs a little big, I highly recommend it as it is simple and straight forward to construct.  My only warning:            BE AWARE OF THE FLARE!

Until next time...PEACE AND BLESSINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. You look very good wearing that high low trend. I think the hem of the skirt is a great blend with the halter top too. Great Job!!!
