Skirt Check - Butterick 5285

I've been on somewhat of a skirt kick lately.  This is the second version that I've made from this pattern.  I will show off share the first version, View B, in an upcoming post.

Some skirts are right up there with dresses in the "cute-ability" department.  I found this delicious stretchy taffeta on clearance at Jo Ann Fabrics a few years ago.  When I purchased it I also purchased the black and white cut.  This was the smaller of the two pieces so I decided to use it for this skirt.
Pictured here is View D.  There are a total of 12 pleats - two sets of three in the front and two sets of three in the back.  It was a little tricky getting the pattern to match horizontally but it worked.  Cutting the pieces to match was just half of the battle.  Actually sewing them to match was the other half.
During the match-up, there was a bit of shifting that took place which caused the hemline to become uneven.  Thank the Lord I had some extra length to play with.  In all honesty, I could have shortened this skirt by about 2" but am glad I didn't....the extra came in handy.

I ended up taking about an inch or so off prior to hemming.  This is such a comfortable skirt and easy to wear.  I am tempted to take it to the cleaners to have it professionally pressed (especially after seeing it in action today) however the thought of it reminds me of a bad experience that I once had with a pleated skirt sent to the cleaners....
You can probably imagine what happened.  When I dropped it off - it had pleats....when I picked it up - it didn't. Uhm yeah...makes me want to invest in my own industrial type pressing tool!  Any ideas?
We had true Fall-like weather today.  Low 70's, the Sun popping out every now and then and rather windy at times.  My time of year!
Before you know it we'll be setting our clocks back an hour.  Have a GREAT week!!!  Until next time.....PEACE AND BLESSINGS!!!

  5. This is so cute! Love how you styled it! Btw, you can always tack the pleats down prior to taking it to the cleaners, that's worked for me in the past. However, they do charge 2-3x as much to press those pleats!

  6. Cute all round - especially with the patterned blouse. I think the length is okay- it sort of balances the pleats.
