Going Green - Simplicity 4965

uhm yeah, after a full day of wear!

I spotted this denim a year or so ago on the clearance table at Jo Ann Fabrics. The color is what initially caught my attention and when I discovered that it was denim, I was thrilled!  I purchased all that was left on the bolt which ended up being about four yards.

the shadow of my "trusty assistant"
I used Simplicity 4695, View E, the longer of the two skirt versions.  This pattern is no longer in print.  There are some pretty cute pants to this pattern as well.  I would love to make a pair but don't know when I'd get to it.  You know...sew much to sew, sew little time.
love those pocket zips!
This skirt is actually the second item made using this fabric.  Speaking of seconds...SIDEBAR:  How many seconds in a year?...Twelve...Jan 2nd, Feb 2nd, Mar 2nd, etc.  My husband came home one day and asked me this question (he's a huge joker??? jokster??? - person who likes jokes) we then asked our children.  Without fail, each one of us started off with...'let's see...60 seconds in a minute'...it was too funny!
more evidence of all day wear
The first, was a jacket for which I used Burda 7071.  It was very near completion when I stopped feelin' it!   What's left to complete are the lining and closures - which I think I may omit (the closures). I really like the style of the jacket but think I may have selected the wrong lining fabric: cotton. I was going for the print of the chosen fabric more so than the content.  Potential mistake.  Stubborn me...bound and determined to make it work.  At some point, I'll revisit it and we shall see!

a skirt with great details
The skirt is quite comfortable.  I've dressed it up for church and worn it casually to work, the last time styling it the way you see captured in these photos.  It's a little big in the waist area but not uncomfortably so.  If I made it again, I'd shorten the waistband a bit.

I've started my winter coat but am struggling with top-stitching the leather portion of it.  The stitching is not at all looking they way that I want it to or had envisioned.  I've discarded a couple of samples in the process  (recycled leather).  Gotta get that stitching just right!  Once I get it all figured out, I will proceed.  Let's just hope it debuts this Winter season.  Thanks for stopping by!

UNTIL NEXT TIME.....PEACE AND BLESSINGS!

  2. I completely forgot that I made this skirt as well! I don't know what happened to it, though. It's no longer in my closet, so I assume that I gave it away a few years ago. Thanks for sharing your review. I like your skirt and will give this pattern another try.

  3. I love the skirt, it looks great and such a fun color. Have you tried a teflon (non-stitch) foot for the leather.

    1. Hi Lori. Thanks! Yes I have tried a teflon foot and it works great! Something about the stitch length that doesn't sit well with me. Like the stitching is too tight?? not consistent in length??... something. Thanks for the tip!

    1. Hi Rhonda! Thanks! The tights came before the skirt. I LOVE tights for more reasons than one and have a tendency to buy a variety of pattern and colors!

  7. Very cute skirt! Have you tried loosening the tension for the top stitching? That sometimes works for me.
