FALLin' - Butterick 5285

I was purchasing the fabric for this project when I laid eyes on this vibrant orange lace and coordinating crepe.  I had already seen this Spring 2013 RTW Collection by Carolina Herrera and knew that I wanted to make something using these two fabrics.

I had no idea what I'd be using this fabric for so I played it safe and purchased only two yards of each.  This skirt, View B, suggests 1 and 7/8 yards....close enough!

This is the first skirt that I made from this patternView D, the second, can be found in a previous post.  This skirt (View B) has a different pleat pattern than View D.  Instead of equal sized pleats, equal distances apart, it has pleats of varying sizes that are varied distances apart.
The two sets of three different sized pleats in the front create an illusion of two large pleats and two smaller ones.  The same illusion (and pleat pattern) is reflected in the back.  An interesting pattern that creates the most fullness at both the center front and back.  Unlike View D, I included the pockets with this version.
I've been wanting to put an exposed zipper in something and with a little preparation  (cutting the back on the fold) I was able to accomplish it with this project.  I chose a black and white hounds-tooth print zipper from Jo Ann Fabrics.  I must say their selection leaves much to be desired.  Gotta find a better source for zippers!
How appropriate is this orange for this time of year?!  I couldn't have planned it any better.  Lord knows I can't keep up with the fashion industry.  What are they showing now??? Spring/Summer 2020?  It's interesting how the light shines on this color.  I think it looks different from photo to photo.

The top is a "Fast and Easy" Butterick (6217) that is out of print.  It is described as a "very loose fitting, dropped shoulder shirt" - c. 1992.  I made two shirts from this pattern (this is the first) and will discuss both in an upcoming post so stay tuned.

I think I've gotten my money's worth with this pattern. There are a total of four versions offered.  Don't know that I'll get to the other two (they too are cute!) but for now I am completely satisfied with the two skirts that I've made.  I highly recommend this one!  Have a GREAT week!

Until next time........PEACE AND BLESSINGS!!!
