McCalls 6559 - Nautical Stripes

Seriously, all I went in to do was to have my flier scanned so that I can continue to receive the mailings.  THAT'S IT!  Out of the corner of my eye I saw....THE TABLE.  The table showcasing bolts of clearance fabric.  I could tell you detail by gory detail how I left there with six cuts of fabric and eight patterns (this being one of them) but I'll spare you!
If you live in the US (most places) I DO NOT have to tell you how HOT it was with this jacket on.
I got this fabric at my last clearance fabric "haul" and have been wanting to stitch it up ever since.  At first glance the nautical stripes reminded me of Ralph Lauren?  Nautica?  Can't put my finger on it for sure but I knew I liked it.  I snagged it even though there was only a little over a yard left.  I had actually already gotten the fabric cut that I was to purchase that day but when I saw this fabric at the last minute, I stood in line again to have it measured.  I guess you can say it spoke to me!

Stuntin' - not one single thing in this bag!
My original plan was to make the short version (which I am still very much going to do) but I did not want to waste any of this fabric (not even sure of the exact type of knit but it is to knits what eelskin is to leather...sort of.  It is soooo soft and silky feeling) so this is my "ankle length" version - not enough to make a full maxi.  I cut the 14 which is good in the hip area but the top is too big as evidenced by the gaping under the arms and a bit around the neckline.

Okay....so the Vans are (over) due for a wash - right after this photo shoot.....
I can tell you that I know good and well that a 14 in the top is too big. I wonder what I was thinking? I kept having to lift the dress at the shoulders and shift it backwards to cover the chiquitas.

Lean back...lean back...
So then I got this bright idea.  Why not wear the dress backwards? I know...sounds strange right?  But I've been know to do it at times.  Besides at this point I'm looking for an easy fix.  Not bad.....not bad...but still ill fitting.

As long as my arms are down it's okay but who walks around like that?  I like the necklines that the reversal creates.
The verdict is in!  I am definitely going to have to "gift" this one.  Sure, I could fix it but I can make another just as easily.  By the way.......Thanks to all of you who have made this pattern thereby encouraging me to purchase it for my beloved fabric!
Peace out! - I know but I still like the way that sounds!
So, in the spirit of giving, do I host some type of giveaway on this blog and share it with blog friends? Or do I call my oldest niece and say "Hey I've got something for you, let me know when you can stop by"?  It's not that I will never host a giveaway, it seems like it might be kind of fun...........just not this time.

Until next time.......TAKE CARE and BE BLESSED!!

  1. I posted a comment about your Nautical Striped dress from my cell earlier but see that it didn't take so here goes again. I love it, and I'm sorry that the sizing didn't work out - rats I hate that. I love Nautical Stripes and have planned on making something for the past two summers, but it hasn't come into fruition as of yet. Just can't get roundtoit. I know your niece will love it as a present, but I can't help thinking that it could be re-cut to a smaller size and then restitched. However, I know how much work it would involve.
